I’m Shana West, and I’m a generalist UX designer. My favorite projects challenge me to make sense of sticky, complex problem spaces and processes. I love to work closely with stakeholders, product owners, developers, and QA because silos are made for dead plants and sad users. Building on the multimodal skills I gained designing museum exhibits, I honed a broad skillset at Nerdery and Iora Health, including:
- Business discovery
- User research
- Experience strategy
- Product roadmapping
- Service design
- Information architecture
- Interaction design for web, mobile, and desktop applications
- WCAG 2.0 AA-conformant design
Though not a true “visual designer,” I’m comfortable working with pattern libraries. I’ve worked in human-centered design since 2008.
As a senior product designer at Iora Health, I grappled with medical data, HIPAA compliance, CEHRT, and ICD-10 billing codes in a proprietary EMR. Prior to joining Iora, I was an experience designer at Nerdery. There I worked in a diverse range of industries with many different products at varying stages of development, such as retail information management and consumer paint color consultation.
My sweet spot lies in puzzling out the experience structures (data models, interactive processes, information architecture) that underlie and connect systems, including B2B, enterprise, internal tools, and B2C. I embrace curiosity and critique as tools for managing uncertainty because I believe that the only way out is through.
